We have all had those days where you wake up and the first thing you do goes wrong and everything thereafter continues to go wrong. On days like this you can’t help but feel mad at the world. Staying positive and keeping a good mood can sometimes be a real challenge. Luckily, there are some simple things to do daily for a better mood.

1. Exercice

First and foremost, daily exercise for 30 minutes a day can help increase your mood. Let us face it; life can be stressful during certain busy phases. A quick trip to the gym, a walk in the neighborhood, or an at-home workout can easily help. Exercise helps stimulate chemicals in our brains that leave us feeling rejuvenated and relaxed. Regular exercise doesn’t just benefit your mood; it helps control your weight and prevent depression, strokes, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, some types of cancer, and arthritis. When we feel confident about our body, we ultimately feel better overall. Ultimately this leads to a better mood.

2. Focus on experiences

Coming in second on our list of simple things to do daily for a better mood is to focus on spending money on experiences rather than materialistic items. Think about it, when you buy those fancy shoes or that fishing pole you’ve been dying to have, the happy emotions you feel are really only for that moment. The moment when you make the purchase and you think to yourself, “They are finally mine!” but if you spent that money on an experience with friends or family doing something you love, you’d probably gain more happiness with that moment and the memories you can look back on. Research has shown for years that laughing is a natural way to boost your mood and feel “happier”. Focus on enjoying experiences and making memories instead of making purchases.

3. Get some organization

An organized home and workspace can also help to ease the brain resulting in a better mood. When we see clutter and stacks of things, it often reminds us of all the things we need to do or didn’t get to do at some point in time. Seeing such things can instantly give us a feeling of failure. But, don’t worry! Simply organize things in stacks or piles of like items rather than leaving this in disarray around an area. This will instantly give your mood a boost! Decluttering is sure to be one simple thing you can do daily for a better mood!

4. Share your thoughts

I know what you might be thinking… “What if I do not like to organize things, or exercise daily, or be social?” Well, number 4 on the list can be helpful for anyone trying to increase their mood. Everyone needs to vent. It is perfectly healthy to vent daily about rants and raves of the day. Sharing your thoughts about things that happen to you throughout the day is normal. Sometimes we want to scream and sometimes we want to jump for joy, but in the moment it isn’t always acceptable. Taking time each day to share your thoughts is one thing to do daily for a better mood that can be done by simply calling a friend or writing in a journal.

5. Get some sunshine

Do not forget to get your daily dose of sunshine everyday! Going outside for just a short time each day will help trigger your body to release the hormone serotonin. Serotonin is a hormone that is most commonly known to increase your mood. If you fail to acquire the necessary Vitamin D that your body needs, you risk letting your serotonin levels drop which can cause a type of depression. Who knew going outside could instantly boost your mood? Most importantly, this easy trick to boosting your mood is FREE!

6. Take some time alone

We would be lying if we said we did not enjoy “me” time here and there. Everyone has something they love to do but do not always get to do it. Whether it is reading your favorite novel, scrapbooking, listening to music, painting your nails, or dancing around your house, you should ALWAYS take some personal time to do something you love.
